Nonstop action is what this story is all about, from the first page to the last I was pulled into the world of Morganville and all of it's inhabitants, vampires and humans. This is the second book in the Morganville Vampires series and it picks up right where the first left off with Clare, the main character getting into way more trouble. So this is a vampire book but not your typical romanticized vampires whose forever tormented but the monsters we've come to know in horror movies who think of humans as cattle. What's refreshing about the story is the power the vampires openly showcase and showing the ownership of the whole town while the humans living there are tip-toeing around trying to survive in the vampire run town and not the other way around. The story centers around it's characters who are very well developed and carries all the intrigue that the plots hold. In this installment Clare, who's going to the local university at the young age of sixteen, is fighting to save the lives of her friends, Michael, Eve and Shane when Shane's dad, a vampire hunter, comes to town with intentions of killing off as much vampires as he and his biker friends can. Leaving Clare to find a way to save them all from getting killed, a tall order to put on her shoulders but she has to find a way. What had me most intrigued was how many times Clare came close to dying, like every chapter, but managed to find a way to survive every time. Though author Rachel Caine does not spare her from getting banged up a lot which brought a realness to the story showing that bad things can happen and not every time somebody is there to save you from getting hurt. I think Rachel has drama down to a science and among it all managed to throw in romance between which is amazing!!This is looking to be an exciting series, pick it up!!!!!!!!
